The most horrendous, ugliest web sites ever created…

Some of the top SELLING web sites out there today are, in my opinion, some of the most horrendous, ugliest web sites ever created… BUT THEY SELL!

The lesson for today is, don’t get hung up on the design!

The tips in my e-book: How TO Create A Web Site That Sells! explain how to create a web site that sells in extreme detail. I tell you everything I have learned over the past 14 years to entice people to hand over their hard earned cash to you in exchange for your product or service. In fact, they really will have no choice if you do it right. You can and should take every one of the tips in my book and implement them into your web site immediately!

For today though, I want to talk to you specifically about the design of your web site. The layout template of your site should not turn the visitor off, but should entice him with relevant graphics that pertain directly to the BENEFIT of the product or service that they are looking to achieve by purchasing your product.

The secret today is: Make sure the design speaks directly to the benefit they will achieve from your product or service and not just some irrelevant award winning, cool, hot, NOW design copied from MTV. We want the design to work for us in our selling strategy, not win design awards.

Keep the following in mind when coming up with the overall design template of your web site.

1. Choose an attractive appealing color scheme, something that creates minimal eyestrain, something that makes the viewer “feel” the way they want to “feel” after they have received the benefit of your product or service.
2. Keep your header graphic no more than 100 – 150 pixels high leaving vertical room on your page for your headline and sales copy on the first page (above the fold).
3. Use a compelling sales copy sentence in your header graphic that pertains to the benefit of your product or service.
4. Design your site for no more than 800 pixels wide. Not everyone has a Mega Huge monitor and laptops still require a fairly narrow site to avoid horizontal scrolling.
5. Use as much vertical space as necessary to communicate your message fully.
6. Check browser compatibility to make sure your site looks the same on MAC and PC and on every browser available on each platform.

Using these tips above and the multiple pages of additional detailed tips in my e-book: How To Create A Web Site That Sells! you to can design or re-design your site into a web site that sells!

I bought a new rug for my office last night…

I didn’t really go looking for a new rug, but there it was. I was in this furniture store looking for a table and chairs for the nook and couldn’t find anything. So I walked around the corner and there is this rug. It’s a geometric pattern about 5′ x 7′ and the perfect size and shape to fit under my desk in my office.

It grabbed my attention and made me stop walking to check it out. I was thinking about that this morning as I wrote this e-mail. That is exactly what a good subject line should do in your email marketing campaigns. So that’s what I’m going to talk to you about today.

The single thing determines if your customer will open your e-mail

In order to write a compelling subject line for your emails you have to know precisely, exactly who you are talking to.

Just this weekend I was at a seminar where the speaker described his perfect customer in a single specific paragraph. His prospective customer was:

A married 35 year old man with 2 – 3 kids, working a full time job, with a 2 hour commute a day, who worked out in his basement everyday because he didn’t have the time or money to go to the gym.

Now that is specific.

You too have to know precisely who you are writing to in order to write a compelling subject line that will stop that person in their tracks and say: I have to read more about this!

Once you know precisely whom you are selling to, you can begin speaking directly to them. You subject line is the single most important line of copy on your email. It is the single thing determines if your target customer will open and read your email.

Online marketing experts suggest the following elements be included in your subject line:

1. Write a personal compelling descriptive single sentence promising to answer their question or solving their problem
2. You must be able to see and read the subject line fully without it cutting off into …. ‘s
3. Make sure to use proper grammar in your subject line
4. The headline must cause the reader to HAVE TO open the email to read what is next

and more… hey, I can’t give it all away!

Until tomorrow…

There's a Gecko on my window!

There’s a Gecko on my window!

Sounds like a song doesn’t it…probably not a very good one. But, it’s the truth. Every morning when I look out the window in my office there is list little brown gecko that sits on my window screen and suns himself in the morning.

He just sits there…soaking up the sun, enjoying the morning…not a care in the world. He is patient and the extent of his creativity is choosing which pane of the window he wants to sit on.

Then later in the afternoon, he drops down from the window as the sun shifts and he sits on the black door mat in front of the front door. I guess it’s warm and cozy.

I’m watching him this morning and thinking about which one of my Dynamic Web Marketing Secrets I wanted to reveal today…

Don’t ask me how I came up with this secret from watching a gecko…I have no idea.

Earn over $40,000 with one days work…

I have a client who has used this one tip to earn over $40,000 with one days work…check this out, I’m going to tell you how he did it.

Have you ever been to Yahoo!? Of course you have, who hasn’t. Well Yahoo! runs news story’s every day on their site. Yahoo!’s news stories are seen by literally millions of viewers visiting the site, checking their email and posting in groups. Imagine what would happen if one of your articles or news stories got posted onto Yahoo! or another news site tomorrow…Tons of instant viewers.

That is exactly what this client of mine did using this one technique from my book.

Here’s what you do: To use this technique you have to be up on current events. You need to watch the news and be able to identify what people are writing about and what stories are being covered. Once you identify a HOT Topic, you need to quickly write an article using the keywords that pertain to that HOT Topic and match your web site. (it doesn’t do any good if your site or product doesn’t pertain to the keyword).

Timing it crucial for this Dynamic Web Marketing Secret technique. As soon as you can finish your article, optimize it for the search engines, and post it to your web site as a landing page (more on landing pages can be found in my book).

Next you want to submit that article to every free article submission web site you can find and link back to that article’s URL on your web site.

Article promotion is a game of consistency. You need watch the news often and be able to identify news worthy events or topics as they are happening, or before if possible. Then, write your keyword rich articles so that you SE’s will and news reporting services will pick up your articles first.

DO NOT BUILD THE ENTIRE SITE IN FLASH!!!

One of my clients is a web site designer. He does a great job for his customers and they love him. He builds these wildly exciting interactive web sites that are Full Flash Movies. There are things moving and spinning across the screen. When you click something things shift and other stuff pops in. There is sound, and motion. Really incredible sites! There’s only one problem…a few months after he builds them, his customers always come back to him wondering why the are not getting listed in the search engines, and not getting any traffic.

Now, I like the guy, I really do, but I have told him over and over.

DO NOT BUILD THE ENTIRE SITE IN FLASH!!! It is terrible, awful, horrible for the search engine spiders and the site will never get ranked optimally.

So he doesn’t listen, and always comes back to me and says; um, ok so what can we do with the site now?

I always do my best to optimize the site but with very limited (or no) HTML text on the page it’s almost impossible and can never be fully optimal for the search engines…

Todays Dynamic Web Marketing Secret is this, if you are building your web site or redesigning your site: DO NOT BUILD THE ENTIRE SITE IN FLASH.

Instead use elements of flash in your site but build the majority of the site in HTML so that the search engine spider can read the page and pick up on the keywords. As a little bonus today, make sure each page of your site has at lease 150 words of HTML text on it with your keyword (from day one) interspersed throughout the page.

When you build your site in HTML you have the opportunity to use all the META tags for the SE’s and can optimally distribute your keywords throughout your visible text at the right keyword density for the search engines. Too much to go into here…but it’s all in my book.

Sincerely,
Your friend and consultant

I had generated for him, almost a 500% traffic increase!

About 5 years ago I had worked on a SEO program for one of my clients and I had achieved quite nice rankings for his keyword list in the generic search returns. He was happy with the increase traffic that I had generated for him, almost a 500% increase! Yet, here he was calling me on the phone wanting MORE!

I have found that when you perform for your clients and perform really well, it keeps them coming back for more. This is true in any business. So here I am on the phone, with this guy, his site is fully optimized, we’ve exhausted his keyword list…and he’s pushing me for more…of course I had the answer.

A Pay Per Click (PPC) program was the perfect answer for him and his web site.

PPC programs are advertising programs where you pay to have your mini add appear in the search engine results at either the TOP of the generic listing or on the right hand side of the search results page for your specific keywords (the ones you created yesterday). You are charged a fee every time someone clicks on your link and visits your site.

Google Adwords (http://adwords.google.com) is currently the major player in this area and I feel is the very best place to start playing around with PPC, however I want to save you some headache and dollars and give you some very specific tips on how to optimally use adwords to get the most bang for your buck.

The great thing about PPC is that it you see instant results. Once your set up your account, write your ad and choose your keywords, you can start generating paid traffic in minutes. Here are your action steps:

1. Head to http://adwords.google.com and set up your account
2. Write your Ad: Be Specific! choose one keyword from you list from yesterday and write a headline and ad that has that keyword in the healine and in the ad body.
3. Choose your keyword for the ad: make sure this is the same keyword that you put in the headline and the ad body.
4. Choose how much you are willing to pay per click and set your daily budget you are willing to spend each day and you are off!

PPC is one of the best ways to generate INSTANT traffic to your site within minutes if done correctly. For more information on PPC and how to use it to generate targeted traffic to your site, visit http://www.dynamicwebmarketingsecrets.com and get a copy of my book Dynamic Web Marketing Secrets!

Matt Man! Where did that name come from anyway?

Matt Man! Where did that name come from anyway?

I get asked this question at almost every seminar I speak at…it’s funny because most people think that it is some kind of spin off of the “Batman” comic book hero. Although, I never did miss an episode of the Batman TV show or cartoon when I was growing up (I even cried when the show didn’t come on one day) that is not where the name came from…

I used to workout at a health club with former NBA Professional Darnell Valentine. Our workouts were pretty intense in those days. Darnell was always known and continues to this day to be one of the best conditioned athletes around.

Darnell would run me around the basketball court playing “full court” one-on-one basketball, or hammer me on the squash court for an hour or two before I collapsed. Besides functioning as his personal cardio punching bag, I would also help him out with with some of the NBA Players Association projects that he would work on.

One day he we were onsite as a NBA Players Association Camp and someone was asking him a bunch of questions…He blurted out “I don’t know Man!, just go ask Matt, He’s got the answer Man…Matt Man!” That was it and it stuck!

From there on out, where ever we were, what ever we were doing I became Matt Man! I was Matt Man at the Gym. I was Matt Man at the burger joint. I was Matt Man at the Five Star Restaurant we went to in NY after the Nicks Game. It didn’t matter where we were….I was Matt Man the guy who had all the answers.

Matt Man!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): DO IT TODAY!

Back in the beginning of my internet days I had client come to me who had paid a bundle (read thousands here) to have a web site built for them 2 years prior. They had a brick and mortar business at the time and were looking to expand to the internet. So they found a designer and built a site. It was a good site, e-commerce, and was doing OK, but it had still not even paid for itself after 2 years! (In today’s market your site should pay for itself in 3 months if not 3 weeks or less)

So anyway, they came to me about ready to pull the plug on the whole thing and call it a wash. I convinced them to give me 3 months to work with them specifically on search engine optimization for their specialty products…3 months later they had generated $14,000, paid off their site and were well on their way to making a significant profit for the first year ever on the web!

By using the secrets found in chapter 1 of my book Dynamic Web Marketing Secrets I was able to significantly improve their search engine ranking in the generic search results enough to generate quality targeted visitors to their site who were looking specifically for their products. I didn’t send them 100,000 hits a day, I didn’t event send them 1000 visitors a day. I sent them high quality targeted visitors who were looking specifically for their products. The visitors found them through specific searches, came to their web site and bought their products! Bingo!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): DO IT TODAY! is the very first Dynamic Web Marketing Secret because it is FREE to do and can gain your miles of exposure! My client above waited to do their SEO for 2 years!!! If they had taken my advice and done their SEO right away, that would have been 2 years of traffic and exposure they would have had instead of heartache. Don’t wait, Do Your SEO TODAY!

SEO is process of optimizing the visible text and the back end code of your web site with your specifically chosen keywords so that you have the best opportunity to rank high in the generic searches of the major search engines. You may or may not have the technical ability to place the code on your site by hand yourself but that’s OK. You can hire a kid with HTML knowledge to paste the code on your page.

What is more important is that you DO IT TODAY! Everyday that you wait, you are missing out on tons of generic search traffic of people looking for your keywords who want to purchase your products.

In chapter 1 of my book Dynamic Web Marketing Secrets I give you the exact precise directions on which tags you need to add to your code and specifically where you want to place your keywords in the code. There is way to much to detail to try and put into this email, but I want to get your started with a quick exercise to get you on your way.

Your keyword list is the most important thing that you have to create before you ever start your SEO. I will be talking about your keyword list in the next 6 Dynamic Web Marketing Secrets Mini Course E-mails so it is vital that you work through this exercise today.

To generate your keyword list. I want you to take yourself outside of your business for a minute and think of yourself as your customer. Your sitting at your computer and you are looking for the product of service that you business sells. Ask your self these questions and write down the keywords (keyword phrases) that come to mind:

1. What would you type into a search engine to find your product/service
2. What would you look up in the phone book to find your product/service
3. What specific words pertain to this product/service
4. What problem does this product/service solve

Try and fill an entire 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with your keywords. If you get stumped ask other people these same questions and see what keywords they come up with that you missed. Let your mind go and brainstorm, no keyword is wrong at this point, list everything you can think of.

You have 24 hours to complete this task before your next Dynamic Web Marketing Secret comes tomorrow morning. So get to it! and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Sincerely,
Your friend and consultant
